Exploding onto the scene in the winter of 2001, The Erks, (Eric Colbert-vocals/guitar; Mattafact-formerly of Shelter-bass/vocals; Jr.-drums) truly embody the essence of So. Cal. punk rock. Imbued with a DIY attitude, their accomplishments are a testament to their talent and their drive to succeed. A dynamic, power-punk trio, The Erks have carved themselves out a niche in a scene that is over-saturated with "sound-a-likes" and "wannabes." Radio-friendly with an attitude is how one might describe their infectious, smart, driving songs.
Their first CD is a self-released (Oct. 2003), 5-song EP recorded with renowned producer Geza X (Dead Kennedys, Meredith Brooks, Face to Face, and others…). This sonic, yet true-to-form recording is a glimpse into the sound and soul that makes up The Erks and exemplify the solid structure and quality of their work. With a catalogue of over forty songs, The Erks have a tremendous amount of material to work from and their growth is evident.
Completely self-sufficient, The Erks have done very well for themselves, landing some of the most coveted tours in the punk world. This past summer, they had the honorable distinction of being one of just a couple of unsigned bands to tour nearly the entire Vans Warped Tour. With the blessing of warped tour founder Kevin Lyman, The Erks earned a spot for one show and continued for the remainder of the tour. It was an incredible opportunity for the band and not a bad way to spend their first full-US. tour.Outside of standard touring, The Erks have also infiltrated the music scene through film and television. They have had a number of songs licensed for use in movies and TV shows such as CSI: Miami with many more pending final approval. Close ties with the extreme sports scene have landed The Erks alongside NOFX, Thrice, Vaux, and Glass Eater in motorcross videos like MotoXXX and spots on ESPN: Japan and Fuse TV
Understanding the extremely competitive nature of the music industry, The Erks have taken it upon themselves to promote, promote, and promote! In addition to this past summer's warped tour, they have booked themselves on smaller West Coast and southwest tours--hooking up with local bands in a constant attempt to expand their fanbase. They have also put together a fully functioning and productive street team with members all over the continental US, Europe, Japan, and Australia. Constant interaction with their street team and their fans has made The Erks a very approachable band with die-hard fans willing to do anything for them. From newsletters to chat rooms, The Erks understand what it takes to connect and have made great efforts in maintaining their relationships with their fans.
